Ethics and Conduct
At Kids & Co. you can expect to receive an excellent standard of clinical care, and a respect for ethical and confidentiality guidelines.
Psychologists are bound by a professional code of conduct which you can view by accessing the NSW Psychologists Registration Board website. Everything that is discussed with you is kept strictly confidential, with no information being divulged without your permission.
When a child or young person is involved in individual therapy at Kids & Co., their confidentiality is respected.
If we believe that there are things that it would be helpful for parents to know, for example to change the problematic situation, then we would discuss with the child or young person how we could tell their parents or caregivers. As much as possible, we aim to keep parents informed of the work children and adolescents are doing in therapy, and of their progress.
Our confidentiality becomes limited, and we are legally obliged to divulge information, when we obtain evidence or knowledge that:
- a child is at risk of physical, sexual, or emotional harm
- an adult is at risk of harming themselves
- an adult or child has intentions of harm toward others.
Further, in the event of subpoena for legal proceedings, our information may be required by law to be released.
