Is there a Medicare rebate?

Many private health funds provide rebates for psychological consultations, and all our Kids & Co. consultants are providers with many health funds. Please contact your health fund to check your eligibility.

Additionally, Medicare Australia has a Better Access to Mental Health scheme which provides a limited rebate when your General Practitioner, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician refers you or your child for psychological intervention to address a mental health issue.

Eligibility for the scheme is determined by your medical provider, and requires a mental health diagnosis. A consultation between you and your GP will be needed to make this assessment, and to create the necessary referral documentation for us.

Currently in 2023, Medicare rebates are between $92.90 and $136.35 per 50minute session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with an additional 80% of the gap rebated when families reach their Medicare Safety Net.  The consultants at Kids & Co. are recognised providers with Medicare, which enables eligible clients to receive this rebate.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions at Kids & Co. typically last around 50 minutes. Because of the very personalised service we offer, it is essential that you make an appointment beforehand.

If you are unable to attend an appointment, we ask that you please notify us by phone or email at your earliest convenience, and at least two business days (Monday-Friday) prior to your scheduled appointment.  This time allows us the opportunity to offer your time to someone else.

Please note that if you miss an appointment, or reschedule without 48 hours’ notice, we will charge you the full consultation fee. This cancellation policy helps us ensure we provide the very best service to all of our clients.  Charges incurred for cancellations and missed appointments are not claimable through Medicare or private health funds.

What can I expect from sessions?

Your initial appointment provides the opportunity for you to meet your psychologist to share background/developmental history and discuss your concerns. Pre and primary school aged children are not required to attend the first session. Your psychologist will then develop a plan to help you achieve your treatment goals. The number of sessions required varies for each patient and appointments that are attended regularly tend to produce the most positive outcomes for children and their families. Kids & Co. usually recommends starting with a series of 6 appointments, spaced at weekly or fortnightly intervals.
